Reginald James Pelham Humphrey

Reginald James Pelham Humphrey was Commissioned into the 4th (Militia) Battalion of the East Surry Regiment on 15th February 1902 [LG 25-2-1902], subsequently resigning his Commission a year later [LG 3-2-1903]. On 3rd April 1907 Corporal Humphries of the Hampshire Regiment was Commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Northamptonshire Regiment (Territorial Force), vice C. N. Steel who had transferred to the Indian Army [LG 2-4-1907]. In 1912 Lieutenant Humphrey was seconded for service under the Colonial Office. In September 1914 he was promoted to Supernumerary Captain but remained seconded [LG 30-9-1914]. On the 24th October he was restored to the establishment [LG 9-11-1914] and joined the 1st Battalion with a Draft of 300 men at Strazeele on 18th November 1914 [War Diary]. Captain Humphrey was evacuated sick to hospital on 31st December 1914 with frostbite. Reginald Humphrey married Viva Hadley Ford at Thrapston in the first Quarter of 1915. On 31st March 1921 Capt. R. J. P. Humphrey retired [LG 30-12-1921] and in 1933 he ceased to belong to the Reserve of Officers having attained the age limit liability to recall [LG 6-2-1934].
